South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund

Established in 2000 by the South Carolina Legislature, the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund was created to promote spinal cord injury research through the provision of a $100 surcharge on each DUI conviction in the state. Research backed by SCSCIRF includes assessments on quality of life after spinal cord injury, clinical studies on the effectiveness of specific therapies, and basic science research looking at possible repair after injury. SCSCIRF has also funded the development of a spinal cord injury surveillance system to identify every new injury that occurs in the state.
