Alex was born and raised in Charleston. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies Communication from the College of Charleston. Alex recently graduated with his Master of Arts degree in Corporate and Organizational Communication also from the College of Charleston. Alex was a four-time recipient of the Gavalas Kolanko Foundation scholarship.
Alex works in the public affairs office for SPAWAR, which is part of the Department of the Navy. He also works with the MUSC Longevity After Injury Project, where they conduct spinal cord injury research.
Alex writes a disability blog called Tuesday Talk With Alex where he shares his personal experiences of living with a spinal cord injury. He is a member of the Trident Breeze Group of the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association. He is on the Board of Directors for AccessAbility, formally known as the disAbility Resource Center, in North Charleston.
His motto is that he is “living with a disability and a purpose,” and he wants to show that anything is possible!
