Sherwood Toatley was only eleven when he had a C1/C2 incomplete spinal cord injury in a bicycle accident. In over thirty years since, he’s refused to let a high level spinal cord injury get in the way of anything he wanted to do.
Starting out in the workforce as a 911 telecommunicator operator/dispatcher, Sherwood later advanced to become a 911 telecommunications shift supervisor. His career supported a love of travel, which has taken him as far as Paris and London.
An Irmo native, Sherwood has been involved with the association as a volunteer for a number of years and joined the board in 2012. He’s served as vice chair since 2013 and became the chiar in 2017. He’s also active with the Midlands Breeze group and talks to middle school students with the ThinkFirst Spinal Cord Injury prevention program.
